Replacing Old Diesel Buses, 24 Units Low-Floor Electric Buses from Master will Take the Roads in Yilan

Yilan County is replacing old diesel buses with brand-new low-floor electric buses, not only promoting energy efficiency and carbon reduction but also providing convenience for the elderly with the low-floor design facilitating boarding and alighting.

Yilan is replacing 24 units of old diesel buses with new low-floor electric buses, taking up about 20% of all urban buses. These buses will operate on five main routes connecting Toucheng, Yilan, Luodong, Su'ao, and Sansing, traversing major roads such as National Highway 9 and Provincial Highway 7B. The electric buses, provided by Master Transportation, aim to enhance energy efficiency, reduce carbon emissions, and offer safer boarding for the elderly. They are expected to be in service by October.
In Yilan City, there are a total of 138 buses. Kuo-Kuang Motor Transportation (Kuo-Kuang Motor Transportation Company Ltd.), participating in the Yilan City Bus Demonstration Project, is introducing Master electric buses that meet local standards. The launch ceremony was attended by County Magistrate Lin Zhi-miao, Council Speaker Zhang Sheng-de, various council members, Lin Yi-sheng (Secretary-General of the Highway Administration), and Wang Ya-hsuan (Chairwoman of Kuo-Kuang Motor Transportation), among others.
The 24 new electric buses will serve routes 1766 Nanfang'ao- Toucheng,1767 Nanfang'ao- via Chun-jing Road- Toucheng,1792 Luodong- via Sansing- Tiansongpi,Red 1 Wai'ao- Yilan Transfer Station, andRed 2 Yilan Transfer Station- Nanfang'ao.
During the launch event, different bus models, including 9-meter and 12-meter low-floor electric buses, were showcased. Additionally, a medium-range intercity electric bus will soon operate on the National Highway 5 route between Taipei and Yilan. The electric buses, known for their emission-free operation and low heat generation, contribute to safer tunnel travel.
Kuo-Kuang Motor Transportation highlighted that Master fast-charging electric buses utilize safe LTO (Lithium Titanium Oxide) batteries with a lifespan exceeding 10 years and can handle charging cycles up to 20,000 times. With a quick 15-minute charge from 20% to 80% capacity, and no need for centralized charging, the buses support environmental sustainability and green energy initiatives without altering existing parking lots.
The Yilan County Government's Transportation Department, aligning with the Executive Yuan's 2030 policy for the complete electrification of urban buses, plans to gradually replace aging diesel buses. They will continue assisting transport operators in applying for electric bus subsidies from the Ministry of Transportation, progressively upgrading bus services to create a clean, energy-efficient, environmentally friendly, and accessible public transportation environment.
